【PDCA日記 Vol. 147「つまらなさの肯定が重要？」】
先日、ある大学生から連絡をもらい、彼は「就職活動をすべきか起業すべきか迷っている」という悩みを抱えていました。
就職活動で必須（？）のリクルートスーツに違和感を持っており、「全員が同じ服装をする理由が分からない」という根本的な問題意識を持っている人でした。
過去のPDCAでも紹介しましたが、私自身、スーツを着ることが嫌で会社員を卒業（？）したため、この人の気持ちは痛いほど理解できます。

私は、今回紹介する資料「リクルートスーツの社会史」を彼に紹介しました。
本書は、「なぜみんなリクルートスーツを着るのか」という命題にチャレンジしており、「つまらなさを肯定すること」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「リクルートスーツもまた、平凡で地味でつまらない服だと思われている。
私は書きながら、勝手に仲間意識を抱き、リクルートスーツに同情的になっていた。
そのうち、リクルートスーツがつまらないスーツではない、ということを発見した。
リクルートスーツがつまらなく見えるのは、差異が、標準を否定項として表現するからである。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 一度スーツを着ない生活をしてしまうと、あの非効率な状態に戻ることは非常にチャレンジングになります。
ネクタイという名のサーカス（？）、自分で洗濯できない不便さ、クリーニングに出すことの手間とエネルギー負担など、スーツは本書がいうところの「つまらなさの肯定」の象徴的な遺産なのでしょう。
今はインターネットがあるため、スーツを着るのが苦痛でしょうがない方は、一度「つまらない世界」から脱出してみるとよいかもしれませんね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「就職活動」=「job hunting」＞
今回出てきた「就職活動」の英訳は、「job hunting」になります。
「彼女は就職活動中だが、起業することも考えている」を英語にする場合、「She is job hunting, but she is also thinking about starting a business」とすればよいですね :-)。
The other day, one university student contacted me, and he was wondering whether to start a business or job hunting.
He had a sense of incongruity with the recruitment suits which are required for job hunting in Japan.
He had a fundamental awareness of the problem that “Why everyone has to wear the same clothes”.
As I introduced in the past PDCA, I graduated from a corporate employee, because I hate wearing a suit, so I can understand this person's feelings.

I recommended to him the material to be introduced today “Social History of Recruit Suit (Japanese only)”.
This book challenges the proposition “Why everyone wears a recruit suit” and the following phrases were impressive in the part “Affirming boringness”.
“Recruit suits are also thought to be mediocre and sober.
As I was writing, I had a sense of friendship and was sympathetic to the recruit suit.
Over time, I discovered that a recruit suit is not a boring suit.
Recruit suits look boring, because the difference expresses the standard as a negative term.” (Unquote)
