【PDCA日記 Vol. 328「実際の経験が決め手？」】
人間が考えを修正するためには「実際の経験が決め手」と言われていますが、私が銀行を離れて自営を始める時、「確かにその通りだな」と感じた記憶があります。
私は金融機関を退職する際、偉い方々から繰り返し呼び出しを受け、「Mr. PDCA、自営を始めるなんてとんでもない。悪いことは言わないから、考え直した方が良い。銀行を離れると大変なことになるよ」という有難い（？）アドバイスを何度も頂きました。
ここで興味深かったのは、取締役や執行役員の方々から「銀行を辞めて何が大変になるか」を教えてもらえなかったということです。
アドバイスをくれたお偉方が、銀行を離れた経験がない人達であったため、具体的にどうなるか伝えようがなかったのだと思っています（これは別に悪いことではなく、一つのところで頑張るのも素晴らしいキャリアです）。
偉い人達の予言（？）とは裏腹に、実際に銀行を離れても何ら大変なことはなく、非常にチャレンジングな楽しい日々が待っていました（最終出社日の翌朝は、とても爽やかでした🐤）。
今回紹介する資料「ヨーロッパ近代史」は「ヨーロッパ近代史の秘密を解く鍵を分析する」をキャッチフレーズにしており、「種の起源」で知られるダーウィンに関する以下の記述が興味深かったです。
「父から薦められたとはいえ、一度は聖職者をめざしたダーウィンである。
彼が信仰を最終的に捨て去ったのは、父の死（1848年）に続き、長女アニーをわずか10歳で亡くした1851年頃のことであったといわれる。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 会社の慣例として長年行われているプロセスについて、「このやり方が合理的かどうか？」を確認する方法として、組織外の人の意見を聞くことが参考になると感じています。
10年前に仕事を離れて学生に戻って良かったことは、私が所属していた金融業界とは違う分野のビジネス経験者の意見を聞き、議論をする機会が多くあったことです。
「学生に戻るべきかどうか」で悩まれている方の中には、経済的な部分を気にされているケースがあると思いますが、私の場合、数字には出ない計り知れない大きなリターンがあったと感じています :-)。
PDCA日記の題材がたくさんできて、PDCAカフェなどで多くの方々とお話できた時点で、フランスに行った意味は十分ありましたね （何より、パンが美味しかった🍞)。
＜Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「信仰」=「faith」＞
今回出てきた「faith」という単語は宗教的な信仰だけではなく、信条という意味でも利用できるため、「Being punctual is my faith（時間を守ることが私の信条です）」等の形で便利に使える単語です。
また、「faith」には誠意という意味もあるため、「She contacts others with good faith（彼女は誠実に他の人と接する）」という文章でも活用できるため、覚えておくと利便性が高い英単語ですね :-)。
It is said that "Actual experience is key" to change ideas what people have been believing.
When I retired from a financial institution, some senior people at bank said to me that "Something serious will happen if you quit a bank".
Actually, nothing serious happened after retiring and very challenging and interesting days were waiting for me (More than anything, I could start working at Works :-).
The material to be introduced today "European Modern History (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase that "Analyzing the key to solve the secret of modern European history" and the following description on Darwin's consciousness change (Darwin is known as an author of "On the Origin of Species") was impressive.
"Darwin was once trying to be a priest in accordance with his father's recommendation.
Darwin departed from faith after the death of his father (1848) and daughter (1851)." (Unquote)

P.S. As a method of confirming rational choices, I feel that it is helpful to ask the opinions of people outside the organization.
I was happy to go back to school 10 years ago, because there were many opportunities to listen to opinions from people experienced in different industries other than finance where I was belonging to.
In numerous perspectives, I felt that there was a huge return on my investment of business school days in France.
As evidence, there are plenty of PDCA diary subjects and it was meaningful to have been to France at this point :-).
