【PDCA日記 Vol. 431「戦略と戦術の違い」】
PDCAカフェに来られる方の中には、経営学を熱心に勉強されているケースがあり、色々な理論について、一応（？）MBA（経営学修士）である私と熱い議論を交わすことがあります。
先日は、「戦略と戦術の違い」の話になって、「サッカーではなぜ戦略ではなく、戦術という言葉を使うのか？」ということについて、意見交換しました。
今回紹介する資料「実はおもしろい経営戦略の話」は、「弱くても勝てる方法はあるのか？」という命題に挑戦しており、以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「軍事の分野では、最終的に戦争に勝つための全体の計画を『戦略』と呼びます。
重要なのは、戦略とは『強くなる』ためではなく『勝つ』ための計画だということです。
『強くなる』ことは『勝つため』の有効な手段ですが、必ずしも『強い者』が勝つとは限りません。
戦略とは、あくまでも勝つことを目的とする方法論です。
クラウゼヴィッツは、戦争自体に勝つという目的に向けた計画を『戦略』、局所的な武力衝突に勝つための軍隊の戦い方を『戦術』と定義して区別したのです。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 今回紹介した資料「実はおもしろい経営戦略の話」によると、経営の分野で「戦略」という言葉が使われ始めたのは、1960年代になってからだそうです。
1960年代後半に入ると、ベトナム戦争などの実戦を経験した米軍の将校たちが除隊し、民間企業で働くようになりました。
元軍人たちが企業経営に参画し始め、戦略と戦術をはっきり分けた軍隊での戦い方を、経営に活用し始めたと本書は解説しています。
そう言えば、私の前職の外資系金融機関でも、元軍人たちが要職に就いて活躍していましたね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「除隊」=「military discharge」＞
今回出てきた「除隊」の英訳は、「military discharge」になります。
「彼は除隊後、金融機関で働き始めた」を英語にする場合、「He started working at a financial institution after his military discharge」とすればよいですね :-)。

The other day, we talked about "The difference between strategy and tactics".
The material to be introduced today “Interesting story about management strategy (Japanese only)” challenges the proposition “Is there a way for the weak organizations to win?” and the following phrases were impressive.
“In the military field, the overall plan to ultimately win the war is called 'strategy'.
The important thing is that strategy is not a plan to strengthen, but a plan to win.
Strengthening is an effective means of winning, but being strong does not always lead to winning.
A strategy is a methodology that aims to win.
Clausewitz distinguished the plan for the purpose of winning the war itself as strategy and the way of fighting the army to win local armed conflict as tactic”.(Unquote)
