< Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「リア充」 = 「living the life」>

PDCA (plan-do-check-action) Diary Vol. 437 "Does anxiety last for good?"】

In the past PDCA diary, I introduced that “human beings are less likely to feel happiness unless they are happier than those close to them”.

After this post, a person came to the PDCA Cafe and asked me that “Are there any tips for living happily without comparing with others?”

In response to this inquiry, I replied that "One solution is to contact people those who are different from you."

To have contact people those who are different from you means that to meet and talk with people of different ages, different careers, and different ways of thinking from you.

In case you are talking with company colleagues, friends in your school days, etc., you are almost always contacting people who are similar age, career, and background.

If you do so, you will tend to think about your annual income and the status at your company and you will enter a loop that keeps thinking about things that don't change.

The material to be introduced today "Best Way of Life (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase that "Don't be a person whose job is first-class, but life is second-class" and the following phrases were impressive.

“As long as we wish for relative happiness, anxiety will last for good.

It seems to be a manifestation of the dark complex that you can't feel your value yourself if you don't confirm that you are relatively dominant on some axis.

There are many people whose criteria for being praised and angry from their childhood were limited to their social relative assessment. (Unquote)

I feel that “relative happiness” in this book can be translated into “comparable measures”.

Specific examples of “comparable measures” may be educational backgrounds, employers and job titles.

From my point of view, self-employment is a way to avoid these comparisons.

In case of self-employment, your customers don't care about your educational background or career history.

You will be only evaluated from the viewpoint of "whether you are providing the products and services required by customers".

Therefore, in case you would like to escape "relative happiness" and "comparable measures", why don't you start your own business?

By doing so, you will have no time to compare your situations with others :-).
