PDCA (plan-do-check-action) Diary Vol. 581 "Clarify the essence"

When working in the field of project management, you may come across projects that you don't know the clear purpose.

Regardless of whether you are working at large company or in a small business, or a venture company, there are cases where "projects for which you do not know what to do" will be launched.

The material to be introduced today "Design Management (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase of "There is a design at the base!" and the following phrases were impressive.

"The actual design management starts with clarifying the nature of the project.

On top of that, we will draw out the power of various departments such as product planning, design development, manufacturing, sales, R&D, purchasing, and legal affairs.

Then, we create high-value (and therefore highly competitive) products and services, and use that value to customers.

Finally, we will aim to have great pleasure delivered to." (Unquote)

P.S. "Projects you don't know what you're doing" can happen in your workplace, and as a matter of fact, they may already be happening right now somewhere.

If I come across a project like this, I'm asking the person in charge to name the project.

This is a common practice for foreign-affiliated companies, but it is sometimes named in the form of "project XYZ".

Naming a project not only determines how it is called, but also has the advantage of clarifying the purpose and essence of the project.

Once the project name is decided, ask them to set a deadline for how long it will continue.

Those are tips to control the project in any organization.
