PDCA日記リーダーであるある方から、以下のような興味深いコメントと質問を頂きました。
「最近、色々な部署の方々から複数の仕事を頼まれる状況になっています。
Mr. PDCAも複数のタスクを同時にやっているようですが、自分で『何をやっているか分からない』という状況に陥ることはないのですか？」（PDCA日記読者コメント終わり）
私からは、以下のように回答しました。
「ロシアの文豪であるドストエフスキーは、『人間はどんな環境にも慣れる』という言葉を残しています。
私の場合、クレジットカード会社で働いていた時に、複数の業務を同時にこなすコツを覚えた気がしています。
クレジットカード会社には、2つの監督官庁があります。
経済産業省と金融庁ですが、クレジットは割賦販売法（経済産業省）、キャッシングは貸金業法（金融庁）が準拠法になっており、世にも不思議な二重行政が行われているためです。
私はクレジットカード会社で当局対応をしていたのですが、2つの役所から数えきれない程の指示を受けながら仕事をしていました。
その際、複数の仕事を同時にこなすということに慣れた気がしています。」（Mr. PDCAコメント終わり）
今回紹介する資料「罪と罰」はドストエフスキーの名作ですが、過去に紹介したトルストイの「戦争と平和」と同様に、「聞いたことはあるけれども、全部読んだ人は少ないシリーズ」の一つと言われています（Mr. PDCAは、住所不定無職の時に読破 !）。
「罪と罰」は、主人公であるラスコーリニコフが様々なチャレンジに直面する物語ですが、筆者であるドストエフスキー自身は本書の執筆前後に、政治犯としての投獄、妻の看病、ギャンブルの失敗等が続いたことで知られています。
「人間はどんな環境にも慣れる」という言葉は、ドストエフスキー自身に人生のチャレンジが続いたことから、「色々なことに慣れざるを得なかった」と「罪と罰」から読み取れなくもありません。

P.S. ビジネスにおいては、ポジティブな慣れというものがあります。
「自分から挨拶をする」、「時間や期日を守る」、「エレベーターで話さない」等の基礎的なことは多くの組織で行われていると思います。
挨拶ができなかったり、時間に遅れたりすると、最初の職場で上司や先輩からその都度注意を受けます（注意してくれない組織もあるみたいだけれど😊）。
注意を受けて改善し続けることによって「ポジティブな慣れ」に変化し、「そうすることが当たり前」ということになっていきます。
一方、周りが挨拶をしない、時間に遅れるという環境に入ってしまうと、「チャレンジングな慣れ」になってしまうリスクがあります。
そのような場合は、自分1人でも状況を打開する勇気が必要になるでしょう。
挨拶がなかったり、時間にルーズな組織であっても、自分から挨拶をしたり、時間や期日を守ることで、「良い意味で目立つ」ことが可能になり、逆にチャンスとも言えます（経験談😊)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「投獄」 = 「imprisonment」＞
今回出てきた「投獄」の英訳は、「imprisonment」になります。
「彼は政治犯としての投獄生活を耐え抜いた」を英語にする場合、「He endured imprisonment as a political prisoner」とすればよいですね😊。
At PDCA breakfast the other day, one colleague received the following interesting comments and questions.
"Recently, we have been asked multiple tasks from various departments. Mr. PDCA (me) seems to be doing multiple tasks at the same time, are there any tips to handle many tasks in such a challenging situation? "
For this inquiry, I responded as follows.
"Russian writer Dostoevsky said 'Humans can get used to any environment'. In my case, when I worked at a credit card company, I found tips to do multiple tasks simultaneously.
There are two regulators in the credit card industry in Japan (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry & Financial Services Agency).
At that time, I received countless orders from two authorities and I got used to handle multiples tasks."
The material to be introduced today "Crime and Punishment" is a masterpiece of Dostoevsky.
Just like Tolstoy's "War and Peace" introduced in the past PDCA diary, "Crime and Punishment" is said to be one of books which "Many people heard of the name, but only few of them have read all".
Main character Raskolnikov faces various challenges in this book, but Dostoevsky himself had been in a tough situation such as imprisonment as a political criminal, wife's nursing, and gambling failure, etc., when he was writing "Crime and Punishment".
"Humans can get used to any circumstance" might be words from the challenging experiences of Dostoevsky.

When you are in the working environment where there is no greeting, thanking or punctuality, you need to have the courage to break the situation by yourself.
Even at such a time, it is possible to keep greeting, be on time and it can be said it is a chance to be conspicuous in a good way😊.
