【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,279「モチベーションとやる気の違い」】
私はプロジェクト管理の仕事を2011年から始めたのですが、それ以降モチベーションというものを意識したことがありません。
「モチベーションが上がらない」という人がいますが、私の場合は基本的に一定です。
今回紹介する資料「承認する・勇気づける技術 便利帖」は「対人援助の現場で使える」をキャッチフレーズにしており、「モチベーションとは単なる『やる気』ではない」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「モチベーション（motivation）とは、動機を意味する motive と行動を意味する action を組み合わせた言葉です。
動機が行動に結びつくプロセスのことであり、日本語では『動機づけ』と訳されています。
動機づけという言葉を、相手のやる気を高めるときに使う人も多いでしょう。
厳密に言えば、モチベーションとは単なる『やる気』ではなく、目的に向かって行動を起こし、その行動を維持することを言います。
いくら『やる気』があっても、それが行動に結びつかなければ、その気持ちを維持することは難しいのです。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 今回紹介した資料「承認する・勇気づける技術 便利帖」の中で、もう一点面白いと思ったのは以下の点です。
「モチベーションを高めるために不可欠なのは、職員自身が考えて選択したり、決定したりできる機会と、ある程度の裁量が職員に与えられた職場環境です。」（引用終わり）
最近の経営学の論文を読んでいると、「マイクロマネジメントは避けるべき」という論調が目立っています。
部下の行動をいちいち確認する管理職は嫌がられるだけではなく、部門全体のモチベーション低下を引き起こすことが確認されています。
「方向性だけを示して後は任せる」というマクロマネジメントの方が合理的であると考えられており、私も同意しますね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「行動を起こす」 = 「take action」＞
今回出てきた「行動を起こす」の英訳は、「take action」になります。
「目的に向かって行動を起こす」を英語で表現する場合、「Take action toward the goal」とすればよいですね :-)。

“Motivation is a combination of motive and action.
Motivation is a process that leads to action.
Many people will use the word motivation to drive others.
Strictly speaking, motivation is more than just "drive", it means taking action toward a goal and maintaining that action.
No matter how much motivation you have, it is difficult to maintain that feeling unless it leads to action." (Unquote)
