PDCA (plan-do-check-action) Diary Vol. 1,286  "Single plant is weak"

The material introduced today "The Japanese Endangered Botanical Encyclopedia (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase "A guidebook for learning about rare plants in Japan" and the following phrases were impressive in the part "Forests and fields consisting of a single plant are weak."

"If you fill a large area with a single plant, it can spread quickly when a disease occurs, and all plants can die.

For example, the famine of Irish potatoes is well known in the world history.

Around the end of the Edo period in Japan, the cultivation of a single variety of potatoes caused them to die at the same time when the disease spread, starving many farmers and causing some of the survivors to die.

The large number of Irish immigrants in the United States is related to this potato famine.

Thus, plant ecosystems composed of a single or a few plant species are vulnerable to disease." (Unquote)

P.S. I believe that the key to build a diversified organization is for management to keep communicating the importance of diversity to its staff.

While the management says "diversity is important", when you look at the executive introduction page of HP, there are quite a few companies where all of them are Japanese men.

Such organizations tend to pursue "verbal diversity," and in reality there is no diversity within the company.

It is necessary for a diversified organization to "not just put it into words, but the management side to point it out properly" 😊.
