PDCA日記 Vol. 2,118「自由の定義」
私がアメリカに住んでいた20年前、「ここは自由の国だ」というコメントをよく聞きました。
日本もそうですが、自国の政治家の文句を堂々と言えることは、幸せなことです。
今回紹介する資料「アメリカのなぞ」は、以下のフレーズが印象的でした。
「アーレントは、何か新しいことを始めることができる能力によってこそ、自由を定義していた。
始まりを語ることが無意味なのだとすれば、アーレントが主張しているような自由は虚妄であり、そんなものは存在しない、と言うべきなのか。」（引用終わり）

トランプ政権が、各国に対して8月1日から適用する関税率を発表しました。
ありとあらゆるニュースが流れる中、アメリカの株価は先週最高値を更新しました。
大統領が誰であろうと、政治がどれだけ無茶苦茶であろうと、アメリカの民間セクターはあらゆる知恵を絞り、ビジネスを拡大しています。
今回のトランプ関税騒動で、「アメリカから資金が逃げ出す」と一部の識者は述べていました。
一時的にアメリカから資金が逃避したようですが、結局のところ、アメリカ企業への投資が一番効率的であることが証明されたようです。
ベッセント財務長官が、「金融機関の意見ではなく、金融市場を見て判断する」と述べていました。
政府だけではなく、個人も企業も金融市場を見て判断することが重要ですね。
昨日、ある銀行のアナリストと久々に会いました。
彼女によると、グローバル金融界隈（？）で、日本政府首脳の英語力のなさが、話題だそうです。
現在の首相が英語を話さないため、サミット等で孤立している様子が指摘されています。
首相同様、自民党幹事長も国内政策重視のようです。
アメリカ政府から「関税は25%になったよ」と通知されたのは、日本政府首脳の英語力のなさに起因していると私は考えています。
日本の場合、企業も英語力がないために、グローバルなチャレンジに直面しがちです。
重要なことは、英語ができないなら海外に行かないことですね。
英語の勉強をすればいいのですが、なぜか拒否する人が多いです。
通訳やAI経由で海外展開可能と言っている組織は、大変危険です。
英語力がないのに海外に進出した場合、速やかに撤退すべきなのです。
これが中々できないようで、私も苦労したものです。
大本営病と私は読んでいますが、「日本人は撤退が苦手」という事実を受け入れることが重要ですね🌞
20年前にニューヨークで私がトレーダーをしていた時も、アメリカ人に「日本人は損切が下手だ」と言われました💰
重要なことは、撤退のタイミングを決めておくことですね🏃
日本政府の関税対応については、投票で評価するようにしましょう。

＜ 本日のボンジュール英語「虚妄」 = 「illusion」＞
今回出てきた「虚妄」の英訳は、「illusion」になります。
「自由は虚妄である」を英語で表現する場合、「Freedom is an illusion」とすればよいですね😊
Twenty years ago when I lived in the US, I often heard the comment "This is a free country."
It's the same in Japan, but it's a blessing to be able to confidently complain about your own country's politicians.
The following phrases from the book introduced today, "The Mystery of America," made an impression on me.
"Arendt defined freedom precisely by the ability to start something new.
If talking about beginnings is meaningless, should we say that the freedom Arendt claims is an illusion and does not exist?" (Unquote)

The Trump administration continues to hold tariff negotiations with various countries.
While all kinds of news is being reported, US stock prices are hitting new highs.
No matter who the president is or how crazy the politics are, the US private sector is using all its wisdom to expand its business.
Some experts have said that the Trump tariffs will cause "capital to flee the US."
It seems that capital has temporarily fled the US, but in the end, it seems to have proven that investing in US companies is the most efficient way to do so.
Secretary of the Treasury Bessent said, "We will make our decision based on financial markets, not on the opinions of financial institutions."
It is important that not only the government, but also individuals and companies look at the financial markets and make their decisions.
