何を隠そう私は憲法マニアで、アメリカやフランスの憲法等をこのブログでも度々紹介しています。
100年以上前ですが、理想の憲法と呼ばれたのがワイマール憲法です。
1918年のドイツ革命を経て、1919年にドイツ共和国で民主的に制定されたのがワイマール憲法です。
当時、世界で最も先進的な人権規定を持っていましたが、皮肉なことにナチスの台頭で1930年に効力を失います。
ドイツで初めて君主政を廃止し、共和政を規定したのがワイマール憲法です。
男女の普通選挙による議会政治、国民の直接選挙で選ばれる大統領制に加え、世界で最初に労働者の団結権などの社会権の保障を明記したことでも知られています。
ワイマール憲法が導入した比例代表制により、民意が反映されると考えていました。
現実には、小党分立状態による政党政治の混乱を生みだし、ナチスの台頭を許したと考えられています。
初期の政権は、民主党・中央党・社民党のワイマール連合が担いました。
ただ、右派と左派の利害が対立し、ワイマール憲法の理想は破滅へと向かうことになります。

偶然ですが、2009年に日本で政権交代が起こった時に政権を担ったのは、民主党・国民新党・民主党で、ワイマール連合の党名が似ていますね。
これまた偶然ですが、理想を唱えた日本の民主党政権はあえなく崩壊します。
理想を語るのは簡単ですが、政権を維持するのは難しいようで、これは世界共通のようです。

今回出てきた「破滅」の英訳は、「ruin」になります。
「理想の憲法が破滅を招いた？」を英語で表現する場合、「Did the ideal constitution lead to ruin?」とすればよいですね😊

I'm a constitution buff, and I often introduce American and French constitutions on this blog.
More than 100 years ago, the Constitution of the Weimar Republic was called the ideal constitution.
The Weimar Constitution was democratically enacted in the German Republic in 1919 after the German Revolution in 1918.
It had the most advanced human rights provisions in the world at the time, but ironically lost its effectiveness in 1930 due to the rise of Nazism.
The Weimar Constitution was the first constitution in Germany to abolish the monarchy and establish a republic.
In addition to parliamentary government with universal suffrage for both men and women and a presidential system elected by direct popular vote, the Weimar Constitution is also known for being the first in the world to explicitly guarantee social rights such as the right of workers to organize.
It was believed that the proportional representation system introduced by the Weimar Constitution would reflect the will of the people.
In reality, it created chaos in party politics due to the fragmentation of small parties and allowed the rise of the Nazis.
The initial government was the Weimar Coalition, consisting of the Democratic Party, the Center Party, and the Social Democratic Party.
However, the interests of the right and left wing conflicted, and the ideals of the Weimar Constitution headed for ruin.
