【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,680「小説を読むことは自分を知ること」】
私は小説を読むことが趣味で、村上春樹の新刊はすぐに買うようにしています。
村上春樹の作品は数年後に英訳されるため、日本語を読んだ後に英語でも目を通すことになります。
これは、効率的な英語の勉強方法です。
皆様も好きな作家がいると思いますが、英訳本が出ているか確認してみてください。
興味がある本の英訳の場合、「これはどういう意味だろう」と自分で調べることになります。
試験勉強とは違い、自分の好奇心で英語を覚えることになります。
ゴールデンウイークが近づいてきましたので、是非試してみてください。
今回紹介する資料「『ねじまき鳥クロニクル』を読み解く」は、村上春樹の「ねじまき鳥クロニクル」を題材に討論した授業の記録であり、以下のフレーズが印象的でした。
「小説を読むというのはどういうことかというと、『自分を知ること』なんです。
自分の持つ内面世界が、文章のどの部分に感応したか？
その感応した部分が、今のあなたにとって重要な意味を持つということなのです。
小説を読んでいて、どこの部分で自分の心は動いたのか。

「ねじまき鳥クロニクル」は歴史的描写も多く、教養を高める上でも参考になる小説です。
日本語だけではなく、英訳本も手に取ってみてください。
日本語で一章を読んで英訳に目を通し、二章に入るという読み方もお勧めです。
そう言えば、AIは小説を読まないそうです（当たり前のことだけれど）。
AIがしないことを、楽しむことができるのが人間の奥深さなのかもしれませんね。
