私は元々、英語の本を読むことが好きだったため、英語の記事を読むのは苦になりません。
最近読んで面白かったのが、村上春樹に関する考察本「The Japanization of Modernity: Murakami Haruki between Japan and the United States」です。
村上春樹は、翻訳された冊数が最も多い日本の作家です。
村上春樹の作品を通して、日本の考え方や文化を知った外国人は多いようです。
ジブリなどのアニメも影響大ですが、日本のことを知ってもらう点で文学にも大きな力があるわけですね。
今回紹介する資料「The Japanization of Modernity: Murakami Haruki between Japan and the United States」は、「村上春樹はアメリカ文学を日本に持ち込んだ」と述べています。
また、村上春樹は自身の作品の中で、多くのアメリカ文学を紹介しています。
スコット・フィッツジェラルドの名作「グレート・ギャツビー」を村上春樹の作品内で知った人は多いでしょうし、村上春樹自身が「グレート・ギャツビー」を翻訳しています。
「The Japanization of Modernity: Murakami Haruki between Japan and the United States」によると、村上春樹は文壇（文学界のエリート集団）に興味を示さなかったことで、自身の作品が海外で知られ、アメリカ文学を日本に持ち込むことにも成功したと述べています。
この点は色々な意見があるところでしょうが、村上春樹自身も文学賞の選定委員などは断っていることを各方面で述べています。
村上春樹の作品を全て読んでいる私にとっては、英語で村上春樹の考察を行っている「The Japanization of Modernity: Murakami Haruki between Japan and the United States」は興味深い一冊でした。

今回出てきた「選定委員」の英訳は、「selection committee」になります。
「彼は文学賞の選定委員を断った」を英語で表現する場合、「He declined to serve on the literary prize selection committee」とすればよいですね😊
