先日のPDCAカフェで、「なぜPDCA日記を始めたのですか？」と質問された方がいました。
私は10年以上前から毎日1冊本を読んでいることから、内容を紹介することで読書の楽しさを伝えられる可能性があり、自分にとってもアウトプットの良い機会になると思いました。
PDCA日記を英語で投稿することは、英文作成の素晴らしいトレーニングにもなっています。
今回紹介する資料「ジェフ・ベゾス アマゾンをつくった仕事術」は、アマゾン創設者であるジェフ・ベゾスの働き方、考え方を分かりやすく解説しており、以下のフレーズが印象的でした。
「まずは始めてみる必要がある。
小さな丘に登れば、その頂上から次の丘が見える。
新しいやり方と慣れたやり方を比べれば、たいていの人は慣れたやり方を選ぶ。
多くの人にとって、新しいやり方を受け入れるのは簡単なことではないのだ。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 話は変わりますが、1970年代にホンダがアメリカで4輪車の現地生産を開始するため、数人が日本からオハイオ州に派遣されました。
「チャレンジや失敗を恐れるかわりに、チャレンジを避けて何もしないことを恐れるべき」という本田宗一郎のメッセージを胸に、彼らはオペレーションを一つひとつ整備し、アコードをアメリカの大衆車に押し上げるという大成功に結びつけました。
当時のホンダは、「アメリカ車」というとてつもなく大きな丘が目の前にそびえていました。
50年前のホンダは、小さな丘を登っては次の丘に登ること（PDCAサイクル！）を繰り返し、「燃費の良い小型車は受け入れられる」という使命感に燃えて、アメリカでのシェアが現在は10％に近づくところまで来ています。
私が学生に戻っていた頃、ホンダから最初にオハイオ州に派遣された方の話を聞く機会がありました。
この方は大学で教鞭をとっており、「成功するまで続けたから成功した」とお話されていたのが印象的でした。
当時のオハイオにおける日々は、ここではとても書けないくらいチャレンジングなものだったようです（興味のある方は、PDCAカフェで！）。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「天職」 = 「vocation」＞
今回出てきた「天職」の英訳は、「vocation」になります。
「天職」を英語で「vocation」ということなど、英語のPDCA日記を出さなければ、知ることがなかった英単語がかなりあります。
「英語が苦手」という人がいますが、「英語が得意」な人は英語の勉強をしているだけです。
今から勉強することで、誰でも英語が得意になります。
逆に言えば、英語の勉強をしなければずっと「英語が苦手」なままです。
ですので、英語の勉強をしましょう😊。
At PDCA cafe the other day, there was one colleague who was asked that "Why did you start PDCA Diary?"
I have been reading 1 book every day since 2011, so I thought that introducing the content of materials could convey the enjoyment of reading books.
Additionally, I realized that it would be a good opportunity for my output practices.
By posting English PDCA Diary, I found that there were a lot of English words that I had never known such as "vocation".
The material to be introduced today "How to work at Amazon (Japanese only)" explained working styles of Jeff Bezos (Amazon founder) in an easy-to-understand manner, and the following phrases were impressive.
"When you climb up a small hill, you can see the next hill from the top of the hill.
When comparing the new way and the way you are used to, most people choose the way you are accustomed.
For many people, new ways are not easy to accept." (Unquote)
In the 1970s, Honda sent several specialists from Japan to the Ohio State to begin local production of four wheel vehicles in the United States.
With the message of Soichiro Honda (Founder of Honda Motor) that "Instead of being afraid of the challenge and failure, be afraid of avoiding the challenge and doing nothing", they started the operation one by one and led to great success of Accord (America's popular car).
At that time, Honda had an enormously big hill called "American cars", but they repeated climbing a small hill and climbing the next hill (PDCA cycle!) with a mission that "Good compact cars will be accepted in the U.S."
Their efforts were rewarded and the market share of Honda in the U.S. is now approaching 10%.
When I was a Business School student, I had the opportunity to listen to the story of those who were sent to the Ohio in the initial stage.
Needless to say, Honda faced incredible challenges in the U.S. at that time, but they never gave up and said that "We succeeded, because we continued until we succeed."
Let's function PDCA today!
