【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,892「ヨーロッパが凋落した理由」】
現在は、第4次産業革命の最中と言われています。
元祖の産業革命（第1次産業革命）は、18世紀半ばから19世紀にかけてイギリスで起こり、蒸気機関の開発によって工場製機械工業が確立されました。
蒸気機関の活用により、多くの人間が長距離を移動できるようになり、鉄道や蒸気船の整備は「交通革命」をもたらすことになります。
手作業が当然だった仕事が機械化したり、遠くまで効率的に人やモノを輸送できるようになったりしたわけです。
その後、イギリスに加えてフランス、ドイツを中心に化学・電気・石油などのエネルギーなどの技術革新が大きく進みました。
電力によって、飲食料品や衣類などの製造も機械化が進み、消費財の大量生産の仕組みが確立されていきました。
最初の産業革命はヨーロッパで起こったのですが、第一次世界大戦以降、経済の中心はアメリカに移っていきました。
今回紹介する資料「西洋の没落」は、1918年にドイツの歴史家・哲学者であるシュペングラーが出版した大著です。
本書の中で、シュペングラーはヨーロッパ凋落の理由として一神教を挙げています。
古代ギリシャは多神教でしたが、産業革命以降のヨーロッパは一神教が大きな勢力になったため、西洋の没落が始まったとシュペングラーは力説しています。

P.S. アメリカが世界最強の地位を占め続けている背景には、「色々な宗教を信じている人々がいる」ことがあるのかもしれませんね。
因みに、インドの主要宗教であるヒンドゥー教も多神教ですね。
今回出てきた「多神教」の英訳は、「polytheistic」になります。
「ヒンドゥー教は多神教」を英語で表現する場合、「Hinduism is polytheistic」とすればよいですね😊。

Since then, not only in the UK, but also in France, Germany, and other countries, there have been major advances in technological innovation in the areas of energy such as chemicals, electricity, and petroleum.
The introduction of electric power also had a major impact, and the mechanization of not only industrial goods but also food, beverages, clothing, etc., progressed, and a system for mass production of consumer goods was established.
The industrial revolution took place in Europe, but after World War I, the center of business and economy shifted to the US.
The material introduced today, "The Decline of the West," is a major work published in 1918 by the German historian and philosopher Spengler.
In this book, Spengler cites monotheism as the reason for the fall of Europe.
Ancient Greece was polytheistic, but after the Industrial Revolution, monotheism became a major force in Europe, and Spengler emphasized that the decline of the West began.
It is unknown whether Japan is polytheistic, monotheistic, or atheistic, but it may be that "there are people who believe in various religions" behind the fact that the United States continues to occupy the strongest position in the world. I don't think so.
Hinduism, the main religion in India, is also polytheistic.
