【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,946「確信を育む機会を奪われている？」】
先日、AIベンチャー企業の経営者とお会いしました。
この方は大学でティーチング・アシスタントをしているのですが、「大学生のChatGPT利用率の低さに驚いた」とコメントされていました。
今回紹介する資料「AIと人類」は、「人間の評価にAIが使われるようになったら、人間はどう変わるのか?」という命題に取り組んでおり、以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「情報は文脈を持ったとき、初めて知識となる。
知識は確信に裏づけられたとき、初めて知恵となる。
しかしインターネットには何千人、何百万人という他者の意見が氾濫し、人々はかつてのように孤独のなかでじっくり内省し、確信を育む機会を奪われている。
孤独が失われると、それにともなって芯の強さも失われる。
自らのなかに確信を育む強さだけでなく、自らの確信に忠実である強さだ。
とりわけまったく新しい、孤独な道を歩むとき、こうした強さが必要になる。
確信と知恵が組み合わさったとき、人は新たな地平に踏み出し、開拓していける。」（引用終わり）

アメリカの大学では、レポートや論文がChatGPTで書かれたものかどうか判別する方法が議論されています。
私がアメリカの大学に通っていた25年前、ある教授が「最近はコンピュータがスペルを修正するのでけしからん」とコメントしていました。
今はメールを英文で書く際、次の単語まで提案してくれる時代です。
AIの進化を我々は目の当たりにしていますが、「人間は考えなくてよい」というメッセージのように時々感じるのは、私だけでしょうか？
「AIが通訳をしてくれるので、英語の勉強をしなくてもよい」という意見を最近耳にします。
私はこの意見に反対で、外国人とビジネスをする上で英語は必須だと考えています。
なぜならば、人間はAIとコミュニケーションをしたくないからです。

＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「確信」 = 「conviction」＞
今回出てきた「確信」の英訳は、「conviction」になります。
「確信を育む機会を奪われている？」を英語で表現する場合、「Are we deprived of the opportunity to develop our convictions?」とすればよいですね😊。

The material introduced today "The Age of AI" tackles the proposition "How will humans change if AI is used to evaluate humans?", and the following phrases were impressive.

Knowledge becomes wisdom only when it is backed up by conviction.
But the Internet is flooded with the opinions of thousands, even millions, of others, depriving people of the opportunities they once had to reflect in solitude and cultivate conviction.

Not just the strength to develop convictions within yourself, but the strength to stay true to your convictions.

Universities in the United States are discussing ways to determine whether reports and papers are written in ChatGPT.
Twenty-five years ago, when I was attending college in the United States, a professor commented, "It's outrageous that computers correct spelling these days."
Nowadays, when writing an email in English, it even suggests the next word.
We are witnessing the evolution of AI with our own eyes, but am I the only one who sometimes feels like the message "Humans don't have to think"?
Recently, I have heard the opinion that "AI will translate for us, so we don't have to study English."
I disagree with this opinion and I strongly believe that English is essential for doing business.
Because humans don't want to communicate with AI.
