【PDCA日記 Vol. 98「地道なところに秘訣がある」】

 

このPDCA日記では、プロジェクト管理をテーマにした投稿を何度か書いていますが、ある読者の方から、「Mr. PDCAの仕事は非常に地味ですね」というコメントをもらったことがあります。

 

プロジェクト管理と言えばお洒落な（？）感じがするかもしれませんが、実際には定例会合の参加者予定確認、会合アジェンダ作成、議事録作成、タスクの進捗確認という大変地味な作業が、延々と続くことになります。

今回紹介する資料「予定通り進まないプロジェクトの進め方」は、プロジェクト管理にお悩みの方にはおすすめの一冊で、プロジェクトを円滑に進めるための秘訣である以下フレーズが印象的でした。

 

「プロジェクトミーティングをやる上で、適切なアジェンダを立てて話を進められる人は極めて少ないように感じます。

毎週毎週、起きたことを的確に総括して、次の局面に対する打ち手を考える。

プロジェクトの成功とは、意外と単純かつ地道なところにその秘訣があります。」（引用終わり）

本書が述べている通り、「単純かつ地道」な作業がプロジェクトにおいては重要であり、これを続けられるかどうかがポイントと言っても過言ではないでしょう（これがチャレンジングなんだな！）。

予定通り進まないプロジェクトの進め方

もっとも効率的なのは、プロジェクト管理経験者を社内外から一定期間でもよいので呼んできて、定例会合のプロセスを回す仕組みを教えてもらうことです。

プロジェクト管理経験者であっても、最初は未経験だったはずで、誰かから教えてもらってプロセスを覚えたケースがほとんどであるためです（当たり前だけれど :-)。

もう一つ重要な点としては、「単純かつ地道な作業」を続けているプロジェクト関係者をきちんと評価する仕組みの構築です。

プロジェクトを実際に進める人と同じくらい、プロジェクト進捗を管理する人たちが重要であり、このことを経営者が理解しているかどうかも、プロジェクトの正否に大きな影響を与えることになります（経験談！）。

＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「地道な」 = 「steady」＞

今回出てきた「地道な」を英語にする場合、「steady」という表現がしっくりくるような気がします。

「Steady」は「安定した」を意味する形容詞であり、「地道な」というニュアンスも含んでいます。

 

「Steady」には「決まった恋人」という意味もあり、一つの単語で色々な表現ができる英語の特徴をあらわしている典型例と言えますね :-)。

In this PDCA diary, I have written several posts on the theme of project management, and one reader has commented that "Mr. PDCA's job is very steady, isn't it?"

Speaking of project management, it may sound stylish, but in reality, project managers have to continue very steady processes such as confirming the schedule of participants in regular meetings, creating meeting agenda / minutes, and checking task progress.

The material to be introduced today “How to proceed with a project that does not proceed as planned (Japanese only)” is a recommended book for those who are concerned about project management.

This book explains the secret to smoothly proceeding with the project and the following phrases were impressive.

“In project meetings, there are very few people who can prepare appropriate agenda.

Project managers are supposed to summarize exactly what happened every week and think about what to do in the next phase.

The secret of project success is surprisingly simple and steady." (Unquote)

As stated in this book, “simple and steady” work is quite important in the project management.
