以前のPDCA日記で、「金銭欲はキリがない」ことを紹介しました。
その背景として、「収入が上がると生活水準を上げる人が多い」ことがあるように感じています。
今回紹介する資料「人類は絶滅を逃れられるのか」も、「どんなに金持ちになっても、金銭的な不満はなくならない」と指摘しています。
本書は「『人類の明日』を科学・歴史・哲学すべての側面から解き明かす」をキャッチフレーズにしています。
また、「データで人の幸福度は測れない」、「金融危機は成長を1年止めただけ」、「人口爆発は決して起きない」等の新しい考えが散りばめられており、タイトルとは裏腹に人類の未来に対して希望を抱かせる内容になっています。

P.S. 最近受けた質問の中で、「Mr. PDCAが働く上で大事にしていることは何ですか？」というものがあります。
私の場合、「何をするかより誰とするかを大事にしています」と回答しました。
私の仕事はプロジェクト管理ですが、「サンフランシスコの川で砂金を探す仕事」もプロジェクト（？）と考えられなくもありません。
プロジェクト管理の場合、良く言えば「オールラウンド・プレーヤー」であることを求められます。
チャレンジングな言い方をすれば、「何でも屋」ですね（私は銀行員時代、「偉大なる何でも屋」と呼ばれていました :-)。
私は「何でも屋」として、取引先の経営課題を考察し、解決策を提示しながら、ここ10年近くを過ごしています（金融機関で働いていた時は、社長の通訳もやっていましたよ、ペラペラ :-)。
サンフランシスコの川で砂金を探すプロジェクトがある場合、私がその仕事を引き受けるかどうかは一緒にチームを組む人達によります。
これまでの成功プロジェクトで一緒に働いたメンバーで砂金を探すのであれば、私はサンフランシスコの川での砂金プロジェクトを喜んで引き受けるでしょう :-)。
しかしながら、私が過去に経験した複雑な人間関係が発生するチームで仕事をする場合、どれだけお金を積まれても断ります（幸せになれないことが分かっているからね :-)。
何事もバランスだと思いますが、以前紹介したダニエル・カーネマンの著書「心理と経済を語る」を読んでおき、「金銭欲にはキリがない」ことを知っておくと、自分に合った仕事が見つけやすくなるかもしれません :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「絶滅」 = 「extinction」＞
今回出てきた「絶滅」の英訳は、「extinction」になります。
まあ、何だかんだ言いながらも、人類と資本主義は生き残っていますね :-)。

In the previous PDCA diary, I introduced that "There is no upper limit on monetary greed", because people tend to raise the standard of living as income rises.
The material to be introduced today "Do Humankind's Best Days Lie Ahead?" also points out that "No matter how rich you become, financial complaints will not go away".
In this book, a lot of new ideas are explained such as, "Data cannot measure the happiness degree of people", "The financial crisis stops growth only one year", "Population explosion never happens".
Contrary to the title, there are plenty of contents that foresee hope for the future of mankind in this material.

P.S. Recently, I received the question that "What do you care about when Mr. PDCA work?" and I replied that "I do care about colleagues rather than what I do".
My job is project management, and sear searching for gold dust in a river in San Francisco is also thought as a project.
If I can form a team with the past project members, I will accept the job at a river in San Francisco to search for gold dust.
In case I have to work in a team with complicated human relationships what I experienced in the past, I will refuse gold project even if an incredible amount of high salary is presented.
I think everything is balanced, but knowing the research result of Professor Daniel Kahneman introduced in the past PDCA Diary and the fact that "There is no upper limit on monetary greed", it might be easier to find a job that suits you :-).
