【PDCA日記 Vol. 132「5時から頑張る日本人」】
フランスに旅行したことがある方であれば、ご存知かもしれませんが、パリなどの大都市であっても、小規模な商店では、平日の営業時間が曜日によって違っていたりします。
「月、水、金：10時～16時 / 火、木：11時～15時30分」という感じで、不規則な営業時間になっており、お店のHPなどであらかじめ調べておかなければ、足を運んでも閉店しているケースに遭遇したりします。
フランスでは、2002年から「週35時間労働制」が採用され、労働時間に制限がかけられていることから、上記のように営業時間が不規則な店があったりするわけです。
今回紹介する資料「5時に帰るドイツ人、5時から頑張る日本人」は、「ドイツに27年住んでわかった 定時に帰る仕事術」を紹介しており、「1日10時間を超えて働いてはならない」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「ドイツに日本人駐在員が着任すると、日本では考えられないレベルの短い労働時間に驚く。
大半のドイツ人サラリーマンは管理職でもない限り、ほとんど残業をしない。
『なぜ、こんな短い労働時間でも仕事や経済が回っているのですか？』
この手の質問を私はもう何度も、日本人から受けてきた。
あえてわかりやすい言い方をすると、ドイツ人は午後5時まで頑張って働き、日本人は午後5時から頑張って残業する。
ドイツでは午後3時に退勤するケースもあるくらいだが、それでもドイツ経済は絶好調である。」（引用終わり）

P.S. PDCAカフェに来られる方の中で、「職場のサービス残業や付き合い残業がチャレンジング（おかしい？）」とコメントされた方がいました。
私も一時期、似たような状況にありましたが、色々な嫌味を言われながらも、躊躇（ちゅうちょ）することなく毎日午後5時に退社していました。
「自分の職場では、Mr. PDCA のようなことはできない」と思われる方がいるかもしれませんが、私は結構すごいことを言われながらも、気にせず（無視して？）午後5時に帰っていました（詳細は、PDCAカフェで :-)。
サービス残業や付き合い残業が横行している組織にいる場合、「逃げ出す」ことが一つ（唯一？）の選択肢になると私は思いますけれどね（実際、私はそうしたしね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「嫌味」=「sarcasm」＞
今回出てきた「嫌味」の英訳は、「sarcasm」になります。
「彼が毎日午後5時に帰っていたため、同僚は嫌味を言った」を英語にする場合、「Colleagues made sarcastic remarks, because he went home 5 pm every day」とすればよいですね :-)。
If you have traveled to France, you may know that even in big cities such as Paris, weekday business hours vary depending on the day of the week at small shops.
Business hours of small shops are like “Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10 am to 4 pm / Tuesday, Thursday: 11 am to 3:30 pm”.
In case you do not check in advance with homepage etc., you may encounter a case that the shop is closed.
In France, the 35-hours working week system has been adopted since 2002, and the working hours are limited.
Therefore, there are stores with irregular business hours as described above.
The material to be introduced today "Germans go home at 5 pm, Japanese work hard from 5 pm (Japanese only)" explains "Working skills to go home at 5 pm" and the following phrases were impressive.
“When Japanese expatriates arrived in Germany, they were amazed at the short working hours that were unthinkable in Japan.
Most German office workers rarely work overtime unless they are executives.
'Why are the job and economy functioning in such short working hours?'
I have received this kind of question many times from Japanese people.
It might be easy to understand that 'The Germans work hard until 5 pm and the Japanese work hard from 5 pm'.
In Germany, there are cases where employees leave the office at 3 pm, but the German economy is still in good shape." (Unquote)
