【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,184「一妻多夫制の世界」】
過去のPDCA日記で、一夫多妻制の社会を構築している作品である「ハレ婚。」を紹介しました。
今回紹介する資料「世界の性習俗」によると、一夫一妻制を採用しているのは世界全体で18%であり、一夫多妻制の社会が海外には結構あるようです。
一方、一妻多夫制の社会として「ポリネシアのマルケサス島、ヒマラヤのチベット族、南インドのトダ族など」が、「世界の性習俗」の中で紹介されています。
マルケサス島の場合、「何らかの原因で男が女より圧倒的に多く、一時は女の2.5倍もいた」らしく、人口上の理由から一妻多夫性が生まれたようで、以下のように「世界の性習俗」は解説しています。
「この島では、妻が多くの夫を所有しているほうが豊かで、偉いとされています。
男の数、すなわち労働力だからです。
その結果、マルケサス島の女はほとんど働かず、労働はすべて男が担うことが多いのです。
この島の女は、ひときわ美容に気を遣いますが、これは美人であればあるほど多くの夫を捕まえることができ、豊かになれるからです。

P.S. 一夫多妻制を採用している社会として中東が知られており、イスラム教の経典であるコーランでは4人までの妻帯が認められています。
ただ、複数の妻は平等に扱う必要があり、それが出来ない男性は一夫一妻制を取ることになります。
イスラム帝国時代に戦争が多発した中東では、男性の死亡が多かったこともあって未亡人になる女性が発生し、それを養うために一夫多妻制が認められるようになったとイスラム法学の世界では考えられています。
中東では、男性の数が少なくなったことで一夫多妻制が発生し、ボルネオ島のマルケサス族では逆に男性が多くなって一妻多夫性が生まれたことになります。
社会の仕組みには、歴史があるのですね😊。
＜Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「一妻多夫制」=「polygamy」＞
今回出てきた「一妻多夫制」の英訳は、「polygamy」になります。
ちなみに、「一夫多妻制」も「polygamy」です。
「一妻多夫制の世界」を英語にする場合、「Polygamy world」とすればよいですね😊。

In case of Marquesas Island, it seems that there were overwhelmingly more men than women for some reason, and at one time it was 2.5 times as many as women.
It seems that polygamy (One wife has several husbands) was born due to population reasons and the material "World's Sexual Tradition" explains as follows.
"On this island, it is considered richer and greater for a wife to have many husbands.
Because it is the number of men, that is, the labor force.
As a result, women on Marquesas do little work, and men often do all the work.
Women on this island are particularly concerned with beauty, because the more beautiful they are, the more husbands they can catch and the richer they are." (Unquote)

P.S. The Middle East is known as a society that adopts the polygamy system, and the Koran, an Islamic scripture, allows up to four wives.
However, multiple wives need to be treated equally, and men who cannot do so will be monogamous.
In the Middle East, where wars broke out during the Islamic empire, many women died and some women became widowed, and polygamy was accepted to support them in the world of Islamic law.
In the Middle East, the decrease in the number of men led to polyandry, and in the Marquesas tribe of Borneo, the number of men increased, resulting in polyandry.
There is history in the structure of society 😊.
