今回紹介する資料「書くことについて」は、「この方法なら誰でも、魔法のように本が書ける!」をキャッチフレーズにしており、「よい質問をすることが重要」部分の以下のフレーズが印象的でした。
「私がアメリカに大学院生として留学したときに最も印象的だったことの１つは、教授が学生の質問に対して、『それはよい質問だ』としばしばいったことです。
アメリカの学生はよく質問します。
その質問がよい質問か、平凡な質問か、あるいは悪い質問かの評価をされるのです。
日本の学校では質問をする学生がそれほど多くないので、教授からこうした反応を聞くことはありません。
そのため、『よい質問だ』というコメントは、大変新鮮な印象でした。
『よい質問をした』ということは、『よい問題を捉えた』ということです。
つまり、『探求すべきテーマを見いだした』ということです。
ですから、『よい質問をする』のは、大変重要なことなのです。
教授自身が、学生の『よい質問』に触発されて、何かを思いついたこともあるのではないかと思います。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 今回紹介した資料「書くことについて」では、質問が議論されていましたが、私自身がビジネススクールでも似たような場面がありました。
ビジネススクールの場合、授業で議論が展開されるのですが、ある教授が「学生との議論が一番勉強になる」とコメントしていました。
大学や大学院の目的は、教育と研究です。
教授は教育と研究を仕事にしているわけですが、ビジネススクールの場合、教授が学生と議論をすることで、教育と研究を同時にしていたわけですね。
私自身、現在はビジネスの世界に身を置いていますが、将来的にビジネススクールの教員の仕事のオファーがあれば、受けるつもりでいます。
但し、ビジネスパーソンとして仕事をしながら、ビジネススクールの教員をしてもよいという条件付きのオファーであればの話ですが。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「探求する」 = 「explore」＞
今回出てきた「探求する」の英訳は、「explore」になります。
「探求すべきテーマを見いだした」を英語で表現する場合、「I found a theme to explore」とすればよいですね😊。
The material introduced today "About Writing (Japanese only)" has the catchphrase "Anyone can write a book magically this way!", and the following phrases in the "It's important to ask good questions" part were impressive.
"One of the most striking things about studying abroad with graduate students in the United States was that the professor often said,'That's a good question,' to the students' questions.
American students often ask questions.
The question is evaluated as a good question, a mediocre question, or a bad question.
There aren't many students asking questions in Japanese schools, so I don't hear these reactions from professors.
Therefore, the comment 'It's a good question' was a very fresh impression.
'Ask a good question' means 'caught a good problem.'
In other words, 'I found a theme to explore.'
Therefore, "ask good questions" is very important.
I think that the professor himself may have come up with something inspired by the "good questions" of the students." (Unquote)
