「会社は誰のものか？」という命題は、日本だけではなくアメリカでも議論されることが多いです。
私がニューヨークで働いていた時も、様々な国や地域出身者で色々な話をした記憶があり、人によって考えが異なるテーマでもあります。
今回紹介する資料「オーナー経営はなぜ強いのか?」の著書は、外資系金融機関の元副会長であり、証券業界における長年の実務経験と法学博士としての学術的な視点を融合させた興味深い書籍です。
本書は、「会社は誰のものか」というテーマについて、「会社は株主を中心とする多くのステークホルダーのもの」と説明し、以下のように解説しています。
「株主を中心とする多くのステークホルダーの利益を最大化する状態が、優れたガバナンスであろう。
これを実現するためには、『社会と調和しながら、長期的に利益が成長している会社のガバナンスは優れる』といえる。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 私の家族の一人が長年証券会社で働いていたのですが、そこの前社長の先祖は近江商人だったそうです。
「三方よし」は、「ビジネスにおいて買う側と売る側が満足することは当然のことであり、それに加えて、社会に貢献してこそ良いビジネスである」という考え方です。
「顧客よし、会社よし、世間よし」を示す「三方よし」を意識していた経営者が古くから多かったためか、数百年続く老舗企業の数が、日本は世界で最も多いことが確認されていますね😊。

今回出てきた「三方よし」を英訳するは中々チャレンジングですが、「Benefit for All 3 Sides」が一つの表現方法になります。
「顧客、会社、世間」の英訳は、「Buyer, Seller, Society」とすればよいですね😊。

He had years of practical experiences in the securities industry with an academic perspective as a Juris Doctor, so this book gives a lot of suggestions to business persons like us.
This material mentioned that "The company belongs to many stakeholders, mainly shareholders", and added the below phrases.
"A state that maximizes the interests of many stakeholders, mainly shareholders, will be the excellent corporate governance.
In order to realize this, it can be said that 'A company that has grown profit over the long term in harmony with society will have excellent corporate governance' ". (Unquote)

P.S. One of my family members worked at a securities company for many years, and its former CEO's ancestor was an Omi merchant.
Omi is a place name in the Edo period, current Shiga prefecture located in Kansai region near Osaka.
Osaka is a trading town from ancient times and Omi also had a lot of capable merchants.
Speaking of Omi merchants, the idea of "Benefit for All 3 Sides (Buyer, Seller & Society)" is famous.
"Benefit for All 3 Sides" is the idea that "It is natural for the buyer and the seller to be satisfied in business. In addition, good business will contribute to society".
Since many ancient Japanese merchants were aware of "Benefit for All 3 Sides", it has been confirmed that Japan has the world's largest number of established companies that have been running for hundreds of years.
