【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,544「駐車場がなくなる日」】
最近は、色々な場所で自動運転の話題を耳にすることが多くなってきました。
以前は、運転免許を持っている人が多かったような印象がありますが、若い人を中心に免許を保持していない確率が高まっているようです。
今回紹介する資料「ドライバーレスの衝撃」は、「自動運転車が社会を支配する」をキャッチフレーズにしており、「駐車場を減らす」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「駐車スペースを削減することもまた、自動車の所有を抑制し、人々に複数の自動運転車の所有を思いとどまらせるための方法になる。
そもそも自動運転車にはそれほどたくさんの駐車場は必要ないかもしれない。
都市の中心部に住んでいて、ほとんどの移動に自動車を必要とせず、また自動車を手に入れてもそれを停めておく場所がないような場合には、人々はその所有を考え直すだろう。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 都内の自動車の稼働率は10%未満になっており、9割以上の車が駐車場にあることを意味しています。
自動運転が普及すれば、自動車所有の必要性が更に低くなり、運転免許はもっと要らなくなるでしょう。
自動運転技術の躍進は、自動車会社の経営だけではなく、自動車学校などの関連産業にも影響を及ぼしていきそうですね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「稼働率」 = 「operating rate」＞
今回出てきた「稼働率」の英訳は、「operating rate」となります。
「都内の自動車の稼働率は10%未満になっている」と表現する場合、「Operating rate of cars in Tokyo is less than 10%」とすればよいですね :-)。

The material to be introduced today "Driverless Impact (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase of "Self-driving dominate society" and the following phrases were impressive.

Self-driving cars may not need so much parking in the first place.
If you live in the heart of the city and don't need a car for most trips, and you don't have a place to park your car.
Then, people will rethink their ownership." (Unquote)
