【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,566「ディズニーは完成しない」】
私がパリのビジネススクールに在籍して時、日本とフランスのディズニーランドの違いに関するケースを読んだことがあります。
日本のディズニーランドは大成功したと考えられていますが、私がパリにいた2010年前後の時点では、フランスのディズニーランドは客足が伸び悩んでいました。
フランスのディズニーランドは地理的に上の方にあるため、「冬寒いため顧客が来にくい」とか「アメリカの文化に対するアレルギーがあるのではないか」など、学生たちがチャレンジの要因を色々と分析していたことを思い出します :-)。
今回紹介する資料「ディズニーランドは、なぜみんなから愛され続けるのか？」は、「最高の感動を呼ぶウオルト・ディズニー成功の７つの秘密」を解説しており、「ウオルト・ディズニーの心に残る11の名言」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「ディズニーランドは完成することがない。
世界に想像力がある限り、成長し続けるだろう。
この床に落ちたポップコーンを君たちは食べられるかい？」（引用終わり）
P.S. ディズニーランドやディズニーシーは、園内の清掃が行き届いていることで知られていますが、これには創業者の理念が背景にあったわけですね。
過去のPDCA日記で、レストランのサービスは清潔さから始まることをお伝えしました。
ポップコーンが床に落ちても食べられるくらい掃除を徹底しているディズニーは、成功する要素を兼ね備えていると言えるかもしれませんね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「心に残る」 = 「memorable」＞
今回出てきた「心に残る」の英訳は、「memorable」となります。
「心に残る11の言葉」を英語で表現する場合、「memorable 11 words」とすればよいですね :-)。
When I was at a business school in Paris, I read a case about the difference between Japanese and French Disneyland.
Japan's Disneyland is believed to be a great success, but around 2010, when I was in Paris, French Disneyland was struggling.
Since Disneyland in France is geographically higher, students analyzed various factors of the challenge such as "winter is severe for customers to come the Disneyland due to low temperature'' or "There are allergies to American culture", etc.
The material to be introduced today “Why Disneyland Will Be Loved by Everyone (Japanese only)” explains “The Seven Secrets of Walt Disney's Success that Inspire The Most” and the following phrases were impressive.
"Disneyland will never be completed.
It will continue to grow as long as the world has imagination.
Can you eat the popcorn that fell on this floor?" (Unquote)
