【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,599「民主国家同士は戦争しない」】
「第二次世界大戦後、先進国同士の戦争は起きていない」ということを、力説する識者がいます。
代理戦争に近いものはありましたが、先進国の軍隊同士で撃ち合う状況は確かに起こっておらず、それには色々な理由が語られています。
今回紹介する資料「図解地政学入門」は、「世界のニュースがわかる! 」をキャッチフレーズにしており、「『民主主義国家同士は戦争しない』という国際理論」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「民主国家は独裁国家に比べ、『戦争を起こす確率が絶対的に低い』といえる。
なぜなら民主主義という政治システムは、根本的に戦争とは相容れないからだ。
20世紀になって、人類はそれ以前に比べるとマシで、少し平和になった。
それは、民主主義という政治システムが成熟し、定着しつつあるからだ。」（引用終わり）

P.S. そう言えば、1998年にノーベル経済学賞を受賞したインド人経済学者のアマルティア・セン博士は、「貧困と飢饉」の中で、「民主国家では重大な飢饉が発生しない」という主張をしていたことを思い出しました。
「民主主義は万能でない」という意見も聞きますが、それ以外の政治システムを見つけられない以上、チャレンジがありながらも、民主主義という仕組みは今後も利用されるのでしょうね :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「民主国家」 = 「democracy」＞
今回出てきた「民主国家」の英訳は、「democracy」になります。
「民主国家同士は戦争しない」を英語で表現する場合、「No war between democracies」とすればよいですね :-)。

The material introduced today "Introduction to Geopolitics (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase of "You can understand the world's news!" and the following phrases were impressive.
"Democratic states are 'absolutely less prone to wars' than dictatorships.
Because the political system of democracy is fundamentally incompatible with war.
In the 20th century, mankind was better and a little more peaceful than before.
That's because the political system of democracy is maturing and taking root." (Unquote)
