【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,666「『好きである』ことに勝るものはない」】
PDCAカフェで、英語学習法がテーマになることがあります。
私の場合、家で英語のニュースを流していることから、聞いている量だけでは日本語より英語の方が多いような気がしています。
そのため、私は「英語を勉強している」という感じではなく、自然に耳に英語が入ってくる環境になっています。
分からない単語が出てくるたびに確認していますが、これを繰り返すことが語彙力の向上につながっていると感じています。
今回紹介する資料「英語 最後の学習法」は「英字新聞編集長が明かす「確実に効果の出る」メソッド」を解説しており、「振り返ってみて、一番大事だったのは…」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「いろいろ大切なことがあるのですが、結局一番大事なのは『英語が好きである』ということでしょう。
これなしでは、それなりに上達はできても、身につけたというレベルに達するのは難しいと思います。
ぜひ皆さんも『好き』という気持ちを持つようにしてください。
何も、英語の勉強が好きでなくてもいいと思うんですよ。
例えば、『洋楽や洋画が好き』のように、英語に関係したものが好きなら、それらを出発点にして学ぶことができるので、大きな武器になります。
僕自身の英語学習歴の中で一番の転換点になったのは、アメリカンプロセスや『Friends』などの海外ドラマにハマったことです。

単に見るだけでなく、海外の専門誌や関連する書籍を読み漁って、その結果、大きく英語力を伸ばすことができました。
こうした経験から、『好きである』ことに勝るものはないと断言できます。
どうしても好きにはなれない人には、裏技をご紹介します。
英語の勉強をするときは、大好きなドリンクを用意するとよいですよ。
英語学習をすると好きなドリンクを飲めるということを脳が認識すると、そのうち『学習 = 喜び』が頭の中でつながり、結果的に学習の時間が楽しみになっていきます。

P.S. 今回紹介した資料「英語 最後の学習法」が述べている通り、「『好きである』ことに勝るものはない」はないため、まずは英語に対する苦手意識を取り除く必要があります。
誰でも好きな歌手や役者はいると思いますので、その人の作品を鑑賞することから始めると、「英語を好きになれる」確率を高められます。
好きな音楽や映画を何度も繰り返し観賞し、「フレーズを覚えてしまう」ことが手っ取り早いでしょう。
外国語能力は語彙力であり、語彙力は記憶力であるため、フレーズごと覚えてしまうことが英語力向上につながるというわけですね😊。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「断言できる」=「assure」＞
今回出てきた「断言できる」の英訳は、「assure」になります。
「『好きである』ことに勝るものはないと断言できます」を英語にする場合、「I can assure you that "What one likes, one will do well"」とすればよいですね😊。

When studying English, it's a good idea to prepare your favorite drink.
When the brain recognizes that learning English allows you to drink your favorite drink, 'learning = joy' will be connected in your head, and as a result, you will be looking forward to the feeling of learning.
