【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,344「塾に丸投げしてはいけない？」】
私は大学生時代、予備校で英語を教えていましたが、その予備校は付属の塾を持っており、小学生や中学生向けの講座を提供していました。
大手の塾の場合、講師に試験を課しており、定期的に研修を行うなどして、講座の質を維持しようと努めています。
一方、家族経営の塾などの場合、「〇〇大学の学生」というブランドだけで講師として採用されることもあり、講義の質にも「？」がつくケースがあります。
今回紹介する資料「世界に通用する一流の育て方」は、「 地方公立校から<塾なしで>ハーバードに現役合格」をキャッチフレーズにしており、以下のフレーズが印象的でした。
「親は学校や塾に子どもの勉強を丸投げしてはいけません。
ハーバード大はわざわざ渡米しなくても、日本にいながら受験できます。
受験費用は9,750円と、日本国内の大学を受験するより、かなり安上がりです。」（引用終わり）

P.S. 今の時代、大学を出たからと言って成功が確約されているわけではないため、本書の内容を実践したからといって、子どもが幸せになれるとは限らないでしょう。
ただ、「塾に丸投げしてはいけない」という部分は的を得ており、ある程度の学年までは家庭学習を重視する方が合理的であることは、予備校講師経験者の私から見ても頷ける部分です :-)。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「丸投げ」=「leave everything」＞
今回出てきた「丸投げ」の英訳は幾つか候補がありますが、「leave everything」が一つの表現方法になります。
「私の上司は、を私に丸投げした」を英語にする場合、「My boss left everything to me」とすればよいですね :-)。
When I was a college student, I taught English at a prep school.
The prep school also operated cram schools for elementary and junior high school students.
In case of major cram schools, examinations are imposed on instructors, and training sessions have been regularly conducted so as to maintain the quality of the courses.
On the other hand, individual cram schools have no exams and they hire instructors only by the brand “XX University student” and there are cases where the quality of the lecture is very questionable.
The material to be introduced today “The world-class way of raising children (Japanese only)” has a catchphrase that “Passing Harvard University from local public school without cram school” and the following phrases were impressive.
“Parents should not throw their children’s studies into school or cram school.
Harvard University allows you to take the exam while in Japan without having to travel to the US.
The cost of taking the exam is only JPY 9,750 (USD 90), which is considerably cheaper than taking a university in Japan." (Unquote)
