【PDCA日記 Vol. 1,693「成果の大きさを見積もる」】
過去のPDCA日記でもお伝えしていますが、優れた経営者の特徴として、「止め時を予め決められる」ということがあります。
中小企業、大企業、ベンチャー企業に関係なく、チャレンジに直面する組織は往々にして、「止められないプロジェクト」を抱え続け、壊滅寸前まで継続するか、本当に終わりを迎えるかまで「止められない」傾向にあります。
古くはフランスのナポレオン、旧日本軍、新しいところではヤオハンやダイエーなどが例になるかと思いますが、過去の成功体験が大きいと「止めるべきタイミング」でプロジェクトが止められないという症状に陥りがちです。
今回紹介する資料「文系のための データサイエンスがわかる本」は、「データサイエンスを学ぶ人が最初に読むべき1冊」をキャッチフレーズにしており、「何度か成果の大きさを見積もろう」部分の以下フレーズが印象的でした。
「小さく初めて大きく波及させていくとき、何度か成果の大きさを見積もる必要が出てきます。
例えば、次のようなタイミングです。
☆最初のテーマ選定の段階
☆小さく初めて成果が出た段階
☆波及させながら成果が出た段階
小さなテーマを10や100やりながら、必要の都度、成果を見積もり、大きく化けそうなテーマを探します。
このとき、継続すべきテーマや大きく投資すべきテーマ、波及すべきテーマなどを見極めていきます。
このとき、3種類の見積もりがあります。
★すでに出た成果の見積もり（実績）
★これから得るであろう手堅い見積もり（未来）
★これから得るであろう夢の見積もり（未来）」（引用終わり）

P.S. 今回紹介した資料「文系のための データサイエンスがわかる本」は、「小さく初めて大きく波及させる」ことの重要性を強調しています。
「小さく始める」メリットは、失敗した場合でも早期撤退によって被害を最小限に抑えられることがあります。
「小さく初めて大きく波及させられそうなプロジェクト」になった場合、それをどう大きくしていくは経営者の手腕になりますが、同じような局面のプロジェクトを抱えている責任者の方にとって、本書は参考になるでしょう。
「成果の大きさを見積もる」ということは、「進捗状況を全員で共有する」ことにつながると私は考えています。
グーグル・ドライブなどを活用し、今どこにいるかを「見える化」することによって、成果の大きさを見積もることが可能ではないかと私は考えています😊。
＜ Mr. PDCAのボンジュール英語「見積もる」 = 「estimate」＞
今回出てきた「見積もる」の英訳は、「estimate」になります。
「成果の大きさを見積もる」を英語で表現する場合、「Estimate the size of the outcome」とすればよいですね😊。

The material to be introduced today "A Book on Data Science for Humanities (Japanese only)" has a catchphrase of "One book that data science learners should read first" and the following phrases were impressive.
"When we start small and spread big, we need to estimate the size of the results several times.
For example, the following timing.
☆ First theme selection stage
☆ The stage where the first small achievement
☆ Stages where results were obtained while spreading
While doing 10 or 100 small themes, we estimate the results each time we need them and look for themes that are likely to grow.
At this time, we will identify themes to be continued, themes to invest significantly, and themes to spread.
At this time, there are 3 types of estimates.
★ Estimation of results already achieved (actuals)
★ A solid estimate we will get from now (future)
★ Estimate of the dream that will be obtained (future)" (Unquote)
